Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling is a therapy that uses specially designed needles to treat muscle pain and spasms related to a variety of conditions and injuries, including muscle and ligament strains and herniated discs. Dry needling can be effective in treating patients who are experiencing back, neck or leg pain from a injury. This technique works by inserting the needle into the contracted muscle to release the tension and trigger the body’s natural process of healing damaged tissue.

Therapeutic Exercise

Exercises designed specifically for strengthening the back, neck, and extremity problems are commonly prescribed for patients with spinal injuries. Therapeutic strengthening exercises can decrease pain, prevent muscle deterioration, promote joint health, increase strength, stability and range of motion, and protect against new or recurring injuries.

Our chiropractors will teach you these exercises and supervise you until you are comfortable doing them on you own. Research shows that individuals who follow their therapeutic exercise plan heal faster so it is important to keep up with your exercises as prescribed by your doctor.

Therapeutic Stretches

Following an injury, therapeutic stretching is an important way to prevent scar tissue from forming. Even after the injury has healed, maintaining a regular stretching program helps keep tissues flexible, increases mobility, and protects you from new injuries. Similar to therapeutic exercise, our chiropractors will instruct you on proper stretching techniques and will supervise you until you are comfortable enough to continue doing them on your own.

Traction Therapy

Traction massage is a therapy used in chiropractic treatment for injuries in which patients lie face up with a pillow under their knees while a system of rollers moves up and down the spine to gently stretch and massage the back muscles. Traction-massage is usually performed before a chiropractic adjustment to relax the spine, making the adjustment more comfortable and more beneficial for patients. Chiropractors also use traction devices to elongate areas of the spine. This treatment helps separate the vertebrae resulting in disc decompression, reduced nerve root pressure, and decreased pain.

Muscle Stimulation

Muscle stimulation is a chiropractic treatment for many injuries that uses light electrical pulses that are transmitted to specific areas of the body through electrodes placed on the skin. There are different types of electrical stimulation therapies. Some are beneficial for muscle pain relief or to reduce inflammation. Other types of electrical stimulation are used to treat muscle spasms or to cause muscle contractions that help reduce muscle atrophy.

TENS

While receiving treatment after a car wreck injury or workplace accident injury you may still experience episodes of severe pain. Our accident injury chiropractors may prescribe use of a TENS (transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation) unit to help patients control pain at home. The TENS is a small, battery-powered, portable muscle stimulation machine that delivers variable intensities of electric current to treat pain. TENS is recommended to help patients get through periods of acute pain and is typically not recommended for chronic pain.

Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound is a form of deep heat therapy created by sound waves that is used in the treatment of many injuries. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that help reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, and spasms.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release therapy is a unique chiropractic massage that targets the fascia, which is the thin tissue that covers every organ, muscle and fiber in the body. Myofascial release is a gentler form of massage therapy that is specifically used to target maladies such as sports injuries, fibromyalgia, back pain, recurring headaches, and car accident injuries.

Cold Therapy

Ice and heat have long been used in chiropractic treatment for painful conditions associated with all injuries. Ice therapy is often employed to reduce swelling and help control pain immediately after an injury. Heat therapy is used to relax the muscles and increase circulation and can provide relief to patients with chronic pain. Our chiropractors may use a combination of heat and ice therapies depending on the individual needs of each patient.

Biofreeze

Biofreeze is a therapy that works quickly and can be used at home to relieve pain related to most injuries. Our chiropractors recommend lightly massaging BIOFREEZE® into all sides of sore muscles, and fully coating the area for joint pain. When flexibility is decreased due to an injury or arthritis, patients can massage Biofreeze in and around the joint. Biofreeze can be used up to 4 times per day. When using tape, wraps or other supports, it is critical that all materials are breathable.
